How Iaido Training Can Improve Your Fitness

In a previous post we took a look at how Iaido’s “Downward Cut” training drills could help improve your technique and strength for men and women fitness in Ann Arbor. In this post we’re doing a follow-up and showing how practicing a couple of different Iaido moves with resistance bands can help you improve strength and technique at the same time.

First: Nukitsuke
This is the very important motions in drawing your sword or bokken during Iaido training. Watch this video to see two very important techniques for both the right and left side of your body that not only help you clear your scabbard but also cleanly draw your sword using strength and power instead of joint reflexes.

Second: The Overhead Block
This next move is a sort of follow-up move you can do after the Nukitsuke. Again, it revolves around using strength and power with strong follow through to empower your movements and not simply using shoulder and elbow joint movements.
