“I knew JMAC was the right place for me after my first intro lesson. Suino Sensei was super nice and happy and made me feel really comfortable and accepted. I decided that I wanted to train at a place where I was always happy to be there and so was everyone else,” says Catharina.
At JMAC we train students in Karate, Judo, Nihon Jujutsu, and Iaido (Japanese Swordsmanship). There are a lot of self-defense classes out there. Most of them do offer some good advice and procedures to avoid confrontation. Not all of them train the body as well as the mind to handle these difficult situations. Self-defense is a life skill. To get the most out of the training, you need to be willing and comfortable. If you’re not comfortable with the style of training or the personality of the instructor – you’re not going to get everything you should out of the lessons.

Brothers Adrian and Christian are the latest students to be profiled in I Am JMAC!
They've grown a lot since they first came to the dojo, and it's been exciting to see them progress through our Kids Karate program.
“We were out of shape when we started,” says Christian. For
Adrian some of the early training techniques were difficult to get used to.
“I’m guessing the first time I tried to have my knee over my toes in a front stance, my legs were in
pain.” Through the initial discomfort, the brothers stuck with it and improved
their skills and confidence.

Martial arts training isn’t just throwing on a uniform, tying a belt and hitting the mats. There is an important etiquette and respect that must be given not only to the instructors and your fellow students but the dojo itself.
Proper bowing, sitting, counting and learning the essential commands and language is important when you’re training. In many cases it’s for your safety because we don’t want anyone getting hurt, but it’s also about learning essential discipline for your training that can also be carried over into your everyday life.

In a previous post we took a look at how Iaido’s “Downward Cut” training drills could help improve your technique and strength for men and women fitness in Ann Arbor. In this post we’re doing a follow-up and showing how practicing a couple of different Iaido moves with resistance bands can help you improve strength and technique at the same time.
First: Nukitsuke
This is the very important motions in drawing your sword or bokken during Iaido training. Watch this video to see two very important techniques for both the right and left side of your body that not only help you clear your scabbard but also cleanly draw your sword using strength and power instead of joint reflexes.
Second: The Overhead Block
This next move is a sort of follow-up move you can do after the Nukitsuke. Again, it revolves around using strength and power with strong follow through to empower your movements and not simply using shoulder and elbow joint movements.

At Japanese Martial Arts Center, self-defense for women and
men goes beyond learning simple and common punching and kicking techniques. Learning

another game entirely.
Nihon Jujutsu

it allows you to train and discipline your mind. Our goal is to train a
complete individual not just with the physical stuff but offer an amount of
personal development that is essential for any threatening situation.
Remember, it’s not just about knowing what to do in a fight
but knowing that a fight isn’t always necessary. The best way to end a conflict
is to defuse it before it even begins. Fisticuffs shouldn’t be your first
solution – it should be the absolute last resolve when all other avenues for a
safe, calm, resolution have been exhausted and there is literally no other
option left.

As many of
you know, I constantly explore new personal development and achievement
tools. Over the years I’ve found exceptional techniques and principles that
have helped me and the people I coach – now I want to share them with you!
Wouldn’t
it Be Helpful to Resolve Your Self-Doubt?
I’ve grappled with some of these feelings myself. When my
businesses struggle, I sometimes feel that I’m not good enough to get to the
next level. Even when I know what tactics I need, I get push-back from that
inside voice, questioning whether I have what it takes or even – in the dark of
night – If I deserve to be successful.
To solve this struggle for myself and for the people I help, I’ve
studied how to give myself permission to live up to my potential. That’s helped
me learn a lot about how to help other people give themselves permission.
Wouldn’t it Be Great to Experience a Day
of Energy, Support, and Permission?
PERMISSION–THE
EVENT is a day of support, energy, music, hugs, cheering, meditation
and learning. It’s about making sure you know that the world approves of you
and the life you want to live. You’ll get powerful support for your dream of an
authentic, fulfilling, spectacular life. You get frameworks for prioritizing
your tactical stuff!
It's going to be an
amazing day that I hope will change the way you view your world
forever. Our next event is Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Weber's Boutique
Hotel in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I can't wait to party with you there!CLICK HEREto learn more about Permission!
